Fans of Black Library fiction have been enthusiastic about CS Goto's often controversial contributions to the ever-expanding and increasingly dark world of Warhammer 40,000. Here are some of their comments, taken from the Black Library's own website. For more reviews (from Amazon and elsewhere), click on the book covers on the left. Dawn of WarI loved this book. Dawn of War: Ascension Goto`s Ascension This is one great book! "Dawn of War" itself was so-so, and there was some debate about whether this was because CS Goto was constrained too much by the computer game`s plot. Ascension proves it. It is Goto`s own Ascension to the top ranks of BL writers! It`s a cool story with blistering action and loads of twists. The eldar background is funky and the suggestions about the origins of the Blood Ravens are really interesting. Forget "Dawn of War", "Ascension" is the start of something cool -- bring on the next Blood Ravens book! Dawn of War: Tempest Could I put it down, could I hell! An awesome twist of events unravelling to one hell of a final showdown, it does not get any better than this. Left me feeling that there is more to come. I hope so. Warrior Brood Absolutely amazing Warrior Coven Simply Great Eldar Prophecy Eldar epic!
I wanted to say that I read Eldar Prophecy in one luxurious sitting and I thought it was truly amazing. Really different from the other BL books I've read. Much slower in pace, but also more intricate and complex, just as the eldar should be. I liked the way that Kaelor was given a unique personality, different from the standard craftworlds. And I LOVED the huge appendix of fluff, which was awesome. Taken as a whole, this novel is an eldar epic in its own right. Amazing. Salvation Literature from BL?! This book was a complete shock to the system. I`ve read dozens of BL books in the past, usually ramming them into my eyes on the subway as a deliriously brutal enhancement to the journey across London. There`s not usually much to think about, and there`s always lots of blood to enjoy. That`s the whole point, right? This book, however, this book is actually ... a NOVEL! I had to check the cover a few times to make sure that it was really a BL book. The character development is awesome, the writing is fantastic, and the story works on so many levels that I have been thinking about it for weeks after finishing it. All of this without skimping on the blood, and there are even a bunch of laughs thrown in for good measure. If this is the wave of the future for BL fiction, bring it on! If you haven`t read it, you should ... but you shouldn`t expect it to be like the rest of the BL catalogue. |
